IBM PS/2 Model 50z
Model or Identifier: PS/2 Model 50z
Manufacturer: IBM
Date: 1987
USA
The IBM PS/2 line of computers was the next evolution of the PC line. Sporting many advanced features like standard 3.5 floppy drives, new PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports, the famous model M keyboard, and a brand new Micro Channel architecture (MCA) bus on the higher end models. All these changes were an attempt by IBM to re-capture the market they birthed via new hardware technology they would license to the industry. However, while the changes were technically superior, they were incompatible with current standards and licensing was cost prohibitive. The PS/2 line was popular at large businesses, but overall the line was a failure. IBM never recovered their PC industry dominance.
