Released in early 1984 to much fanfare and a legendary commercial at the Superbowl, the Macintosh was a very different computer which embraced Steve Jobs design philosophy of simple, elegant, and cool. It also was one of the first commercial computers with a graphical user interface. It was quite a departure from the Apple II line in that it was no very expandible and could not be upgraded. The original under-powered, black and white versions were not as popular as later versions which drew a following in the desktop publishing community.
